Postdoc position available in the Jonikas lab at Princeton University
Photosynthetic organisms, our planet’s greatest chemists, form the foundations for human health by providing us with food, fuel, materials and drugs. Yet, our understanding of these organisms is in its infancy. The Jonikas laboratory aims to enable advances in sustainability by developing transformative tools and resources for photosynthetic organisms.
We currently seek an outstanding postdoctoral or more senior researcher who will spearhead efforts to place poorly characterized genes of photosynthetic eukaryotes into pathways on a genome-wide scale, using cutting-edge high-throughput genetics in the model alga Chlamydomonas. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead a team including one or more technicians with support from an outstanding bioinformatician.
The successful candidate will join a highly interactive group, with strengths in cell biology, genetics, molecular biology and computational biology. The P.I. is dedicated to providing laboratory members with a nurturing training environment. Our laboratory has a strong track record of launching past postdoctoral scholars onto independent positions in academia and industry. Appointments are for one year with the expectation of renewal, pending satisfactory performance and continued funding.
We welcome applications from researchers whose past experience is in other fields; we believe that diverse backgrounds make us stronger. The ideal applicant will be highly motivated, has a strong academic record, research experience in genetics, molecular biology and/or computational biology, and fluent English language and writing skills. A Ph.D. is required.
Experience with one or more of the following is a plus: Chlamydomonas, higher plants, or yeast; photosynthesis; molecular biology; large-scale cloning; high-throughput genetics; microscopy; or mass spectrometry proteomics.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, CV, and three letters of recommendation to: https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/14441
Review of applications will begin on November 18th, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled. The start date is flexible. This position is subject to the University’s background check policy.
