Postdoctoral positions in the Nicastro Lab
The Nicastro lab (www.utsouthwestern.edu/labs/nicastro/) in the Cell Biology Department of UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas is recruiting postdoctoral fellows with interest in Cell and Structural Biology, specifically Cellular Cryo-Electron Tomography and Cilia Research.
Why join the Nicastro lab:
• Cryo-electron microscopy and cellular cryo-electron tomography are fast growing research fields, and this is a particular exciting time to join the field, because: cryo-focused-ion beam (cryo-FIB) milling allows imaging “slices” of organelles/cell/small organisms that were otherwise too large, correlative imaging allow better targeting of regions of interest, and hardware/software advances continue to increase the achievable resolution. This allows us e.g. to image cilia in mammalian tissues at unpresedented resolution.
• We have state-of-the-art facilities and instruments (including two Krios electron microscopes, an Aquilos cryo-FIB and cryo-CLEM – see www.utsouthwestern.edu/labs/cemf/ – and a high- performance computing cluster).
• We are highly collaborative, and postdocs can choose from a range of interesting projects (e.g. cytoskeletal assemblies, cilia, organelles, host-pathogen interactions, structure evolution, technical development and more) – for recent examples please check out: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-023-37327-w; https://elifesciences.org/articles/78133; https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-022-31050-8).
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in biological or related sciences. The candidate should be motivated, have an interest in learning new imaging techniques to study biological processes, be organized and detail-oriented. Prior knowledge in (cryo-) electron microcopy or structural biology is desired, but not required.
Interested applicants should send their CV and cover letter describing their motivation to apply for the position to: Daniela Nicastro (email: Daniela.Nicastro@utsouthwestern.edu). UT Southwestern is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity (for more information please visit https://www.utsouthwestern.edu/about-us/administrative-offices/equity-access/).
