The ODA3 locus corresponds to the gene encoding an 83.4 kDa component of the outer dynein arm docking complex. This is the original oda3 mutant, UV-induced by Kamiya in the 137c background. It lacks outer dynein arms, swims more slowly than wild-type cells and lacks the backward swimming response to stimulation with intense light.

Phenotype: dies in the dark
This is a terminal deletion mutation in mitochondrial DNA that eliminates the cob (cytochrome b) gene. It is an obligate photoautotroph, i.e. cannot grow on acetate medium in the dark. DNA analysis shows both monomer and dimer forms of the genome, and a heterogeneous size distribution.
CC-2654 is a subclone of this strain.
