From George Witman, Princeton University, December 1979
This mutant has abnormally long flagella, and swims slowly. The flagella are slow to regenerate after deflagellation.
This is the original lf1 mutant, isolated by McVittie in the 137c wild type background.
The LF1 locus corresponds to a gene encoding a calcium-binding EF-hand protein involved in the regulation of flagellar length. The protein is found in the cell body in the Length Regulatory Complex (LRC).

This mutant has abnormally long flagella, and swims slowly. The flagella are slow to regenerate after deflagellation.
This is the original lf2 mutant, isolated by McVittie by nitrosoguanidine mutagenesis in the 137c wild type background, and was originally designated NG13. Other alleles are known at this locus: see CC-2287, CC-2288, and CC-2973.
The LF2 locus corresponds to the CDKI1 gene encoding a novel cyclin-dependent kinase required for control of flagellar length. The protein is found predominantly, if not exclusively, in the cell body in punctate structures call the Length Regulatory Complex (LRC).

Phenotype: impaired motility
The pf15 mutant was isolated by Lewin. pf15a was a clone of the original mutant that grew better and showed cleaner 2:2 segregation. pf15b was an allelic mutation isolated by Warr et al. All the pf15 isolates currently in our collection are probably the pf15a clone.

Phenotype: UV sensitive
This mutation was induced by Davies in the 137c background, using nitrosoguanidine as mutagen. Small and Greimann found that the uvs1 mutant is blocked in dark excision of thymidine dimers.
This is probably the uvs-1/B isolate of Davies, a minority population of the uvs1 cultures that had a wild-type response to oxygen deprivation, whereas most cells in the population were more sensitive to oxygen deprivation than wild-type cells.
